Switch is a Canadian hip hop artist often commended for his original flow, vocal style, lyricism, and honesty. The Nanaimo-based rapper has received over 1,000,000 streams of his music and videos, and is showing no signs of slowing down soon.

Switch began creating and recording his own tracks at the young age of 11. Over the years, his music has grown a philosophical undertone that encourages listeners to think critically. Switch’s unique life experience has created a sound and a message that can’t be placed into a category. His tracks range from grimy boom-bap beats to new age, mellow trap. His musical range catches the attention of audiences and reels them into a catalogue of music that covers a wide variety of moods and topics.

A common theme in Switch’s music is mental health. Switch views music as a healthy coping mechanism and instrumental to a balanced state of mind. As a recovering addict, Switch attributes staying clean to self-awareness and support, he said in a recent interview “I had to understand myself before I could help myself”. Self-awareness, addiction, anxiety, obsession, and uncertainty are a few of the themes Switch conveys through his complex wordplay, multi-syllable rhyme schemes and catchy choruses.

Tenacity and speed are key attributes of Switch’s artistry. He has released 5 albums, 2 EPs, and 12 music videos since late 2017. Switch has been fortunate enough to collaborate with a variety of established artists including Merkules, Smoke Dza, Snak the Ripper, Evil Ebenezer, Slaine, and Moka Only to name a few. Those collaborations combined with Switch’s consistency have resulted in over a million streams and over 30,000 followers across all platforms.

In 2019 Switch was awarded his first music grant from FACTOR, which he used to create his EP Run with Scissors. In April 2020, Switch was also awarded a showcase grant from Creative BC to perform on Facebook live instead of at his release party for Run with Scissors, which had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. Though the pandemic has slowed live shows down Switch is an experienced performer, and his passion and inclusiveness are captivating and meaningful. In total he has performed over 100 shows across British Columbia and Alberta.

Switch has a message that is truly worth listening to, and is an artist to watch.
